Why Homeopathy is Still Relevant in Today’s Medicine

We’re celebrating World Homeopathy Awareness week and I wanted to speak about why homeopathy is still very much relevant in today’s medicine. Many of you may know that along with a range of Integrative approaches I trained in homeopathic medicine alongside my cancer training in palliative medicine. I still find homeopathy such a useful tool in the integrative medicine toolbox and we teach it along with 18 other approaches in our masters level 7 programme in Integrative Healthcare.

It can be particularly useful for children and I was delighted last week to deliver teaching on this subject for the third consecutive year into the American Academy of Pediatric Medicine fellowship programme. I think we’d all agree that keeping things natural for children with good food, loving relationships, exercise and gentle approaches is ideal. Some of the most popular homeopathic medications used for children are arnica, which can be useful for soft tissue bruising, chamomilla for teething or pulsatilla for glue ear. These safe and gentle medicines can be combined with pharmaceuticals where necessary. In a model of disease prevention and health optimisation, healing the body and restoring balance at times of injury or stress is an ideal that we would all aspire to.

So I celebrate my own personal use of homeopathy that I believe helps me stay well into later life and celebrate the medicines I recommend for family and my patients in over 35 years of clinical practice.
