# 30 Homeopathy and the Human Side of Oncology with Dr Jean Lionel Bagot
Dr Jean-Lionel Bagot, founder of France’s first outpatient integrative oncology centre in Strasbourg, joins Dr Elizabeth Thompson to share his vision of a medicine that was never meant to be divided. Drawing on decades of clinical experience in oncology, palliative care, and homeopathy, Dr Bagot makes a passionate case that Integrative Medicine is not a new idea, it is simply good medicine, with the patient at its centre.
In the podcast, Jean Lionel takes us inside his remarkable day clinic model, now replicated across six French cities, where cancer patients receive free, multidisciplinary integrative care, from homeopathy and acupuncture to mindfulness and a shared therapeutic meal.
The conversation ranges from the practicalities of reducing chemotherapy side effects with homeopathy, to the profound importance of listening, examining, and sending every patient home with a smile.
KEY TOPICS DISCUSSED:
- Integrative oncology is not a new or alternative approach, it is patient-centred medicine that combines the best of conventional and complementary care.
- France’s first integrative oncology day clinic in Strasbourg offers a full day of multidisciplinary care entirely free to patients, a model now running across six French cities.
- Fatigue is the most common and debilitating symptom in cancer patients, and homeopathic medicines like Phosphoricum Acidum, prescribed in ascending potencies, can offer meaningful relief.
- Homeopathy does not interfere with chemotherapy because it does not interact with the cytochrome metabolism system. Dr Bagot has prescribed over ten thousand isotherapic treatments without a single case of interference.
- Isotherapy – using a homeopathic potency of the patient’s own medication – can significantly reduce the side effects of chemotherapy drugs like capecitabine and hormone therapies like tamoxifen.
- Organotherapy, using homeopathic preparations matched to specific organs, can support blood cell production and protect the nervous system from chemo-induced peripheral neuropathy.
- Starting homeopathy at the very beginning of cancer treatment, rather than waiting for side effects to develop, produces far better outcomes, prevention is more effective than cure.
- A shared midday meal between patients and caregivers is not a luxury but a therapeutic act, shifting the conversation from disease to life and building a genuine healing community.
- Caregiver wellbeing is inseparable from patient care and the team at Strasbourg practises mindfulness together daily, because you cannot care well for others if you are not well yourself.
- Listening deeply and examining the patient thoroughly, not just reviewing scans, is both a clinical necessity in homeopathy and one of the most healing gifts a doctor can offer.
