Attendees should have a foundational understanding of oncology or experience working with cancer patients.
What you will learn
By the end of this two-day training, participants will be able to:
Day 1: Foundations and Preparation
- Understand the historical development and anthroposophical principles underlying mistletoe therapy
- Describe the manufacturing processes of different mistletoe preparations (fermented vs. non-fermented)
- Identify the major mistletoe products available in the UK and Europe (Iscador, Helixor, Abnoba-viscum, etc.) and their distinguishing characteristics
- Explain the differences between host tree species and their clinical application
- Review the pharmacological properties and proposed mechanisms of action
- Understand quality control, storage, and handling requirements
Day 2: Clinical Application and Evidence
- Apply dosing protocols and administration techniques for subcutaneous injection
- Develop treatment plans for patients with different cancer types
- Recognise and manage common side effects and contraindications
- Explore mistletoe use beyond oncology, including applications in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME and immune modulation
- Analyse real-world case studies and treatment outcomes
- Critically appraise the current research evidence base
- Participate in the Research and Evaluation Workshop with Professor Gene Feder, examining study design, clinical trials, and future research directions

Dr Elizabeth Thompson
CEO & Founder, NCIM, Integrative Medicine Doctor
Dr Elizabeth Thompson trained in Medicine at the University of Oxford and specialised in Palliative Medicine at Guy’s Hospital, London. She also studied Medical Homeopathy and, in 2000, became an NHS Consultant and Homeopathic Physician, founding an Integrative Cancer Care service at University Hospital Bristol. She later led the Bristol Homeopathic Hospital before establishing the National Centre for Integrative Medicine (NCIM) in 2014, transitioning to run it full-time in 2019.
Elizabeth serves on councils for the College of Medicine, British Society of Integrative Oncology, and the Faculty of Homeopathy. She holds an MD from Oxford, focusing on trial design and placebo responses.
Passionate about transforming healthcare, she integrates conventional, lifestyle, and holistic approaches, specialising in cancer care, women’s health, menopause, and metabolic wellness.
Dr Simon van Lieshout
Integrative Medicine Doctor
Dr Simon van Lieshout is a General Practitioner and Anthroposophic Physician specialising in integrative cancer care, with particular expertise in the clinical use of mistletoe therapy (Viscum album). He trained at the University of Cambridge and the University of Edinburgh and completed his diploma in Anthroposophic Medicine in 2017.
Since 2012, he has worked with experienced Anthroposophic physicians at the Camphill Wellbeing Trust, supporting people with cancer alongside conventional treatment. His work focuses on the personalised selection and use of mistletoe preparations to improve quality of life, resilience, and symptom management within a holistic, patient‑centred approach.
Professor Gene Feder
University of Bristol
Gene is a professor of primary care in Bristol Medical School. His research started with the health and health care of Traveller Gypsies, followed by studies on the development and implementation of clinical guidelines, the management of chronic respiratory and cardiovascular conditions in primary care and the health impact of domestic violence. His current research focuses on the epidemiology, prevention, and mitigation of violence, particularly gender-based violence he does as part of Bristol Research on Gender, Health and Trauma (BRIGHT) and as director of VISION. His main methodological expertise is in randomised controlled trials and systematic reviews; he collaborates with epidemiologists and social scientists on cohort and qualitative studies respectively. He is a fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and in 2016 he was awarded an OBE for services to victims of domestic violence

Dr Sarah Monz
Managing Director of Iscador AG
Sarah Monz is an anaesthesiologist, a specialist in pain therapy and a Fellow with the National Centre of Integrative Medicine, with additional qualifications in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture, and Functional Medicine. Following many years as a course tutor with the German Medical Acupuncture Association (DÄGfA), she served as a member of the editorial board of the German Journal of Acupuncture. From 2010-2019, she has run her own functional medicine pain clinic at Paramed Centre in Zug/Switzerland and is currently overseeing the Medicine & Communications Department at Iscador AG, a non-profit manufacturer of mistletoe preparations for integrative oncology.

From the lab bench to global markets – Dr Sebastian Stockerl connects science with real-world impact for cancer patients. As a Senior Area Sales Manager at Helixor Heilmittel GmbH, he combines a PhD in Organic Chemistry with hands-on experience working alongside physicians and practitioners.
Today, he operates across Europe, Asia, and Oceania, helping bring mistletoe-based therapies from production into clinical practice – driven by the belief that innovation only matters when it reaches the people who need it most.
